Ryan began practising bike fit in 2013 and has experience within several studios within the UK alongside notable industry leaders, having performed hundreds of fits with riders across all disciplines. He is also a passionate cyclist himself, having competed in the British Cycling Premier Calendar Road Race Series, multiple completions of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Cyclocross Race, and 24hour mountain bike races as notable examples. The York Cycleworks studio is home to a wealth of valuable equipment at the mercy of the experienced bike fitter. The Purely Custom bike fit jig works beyond the constraints of a conventional fixed-contact point bicycle in order to dial the position in to perfection, thus allowing improved rider/fitter analysis and position optimisation. A Tacx Smart direct drive turbo trainer is also on hand when the consultation is better suited to working with the rider’s own bicycle. The GebioMized saddle pressure mapping equipment offers objective data with which both fitter and rider can make evidence-based informed analysis on saddle choice and position optimisation. The Sidas footbed station allows Ryan to create custom heat-moulded insoles for improved power transfer, stability and comfort, with a potential for injury reduction. Dartfish motion capture analysis allows for an in-depth appraisal of the rider’s behaviours and engagements with their bike alongside illustrating the processes involved. Ryan’s bike fits are rider-focussed and evidence-based, with input from physiotherapists and other industry experts. His specialities include saddle optimisation and injury prevention, complemented by a network of affiliated phyiostherapists and two more in-house bike fitters. Ryan is also the bike fitter of choice for Yorkshire’s Feather Cycles bicycles, playing his part in designing custom bicycles for all Feather Cycles clients such as transcontinental competitors, road racers and recreational riders. He has also delivered Trek Precision Fit Level 2 courses which focus on advanced physical evaluation techniques, advanced pedalling dynamic analysis, advanced foot control and stabilisation methods and saddle/rider optimisation.
